Independent Trustee

Independent trustee is a trustee who is not related to the beneficiary of the trust and does not stand to inherit any property under the trust. An independent trustee is required under a Delaware Statutory Trust (DST) property holding structure in order to protect the lender in the event the signatory trustee fails or does not act in the lender’s best interest.
