Soft costs are fees that are not directly related to labor and direct constructions costs.  Soft costs include architectural, engineering, financing, and legal fees, and other pre- and post-construction expenses. Soft costs contrast to [hard costs](https://www.realized1031.com/glossary/hard-cost) which generally refer to the physical components of a building or project.
